The shortage of antiretrovirals in Venezuela has reached 90%. For those living with HIV/AIDS, staying behind means death; emigrating offers the chance to access treatment and stay alive. In Peru, the Ministry of Health has registered 1,179 Venezuelans with HIV, but NGOs estimate the figure could be as high as 8,000.
